We are so happy that you’ve found us! Boundless Birth is a labor of love for Emily Christian-Michaels and Anna Sylvester, a pair of doulas who have been working together since 2018. Over the years we have been joined by our amazing doulas Aimee Bungard, Alyson Thiel, Rachel Parente, and Katharine Combemale. As a team we bring all of our distinct styles to labor and postpartum support. As active members of the Pittsburgh doula community, we are happy to work with all clients for all types of deliveries – whether this is your first birth, or your fifth.
In addition to birth doula services, we are also thrilled to provide postpartum and sibling doula support, breastfeeding education, and evidence-based childbirth education.
We work with all types of families at all birth locations in the Pittsburgh area.

Emily, Anna, and Aimee are amazing! We asked for their help as postpartum doulas and they were a godsend. They all have their relative strengths and we cannot imagine how we could have dealt with the first six weeks without their help. Emily is one of the most energetic persons I have met and she would get things done before I could even start figuring out where to start. Anna is always on top of things and never lets anything slip through. Aimee is so warm! She mostly came on weekends to help with baby's naps and was very very helpful in figuring out what soothed him the most and worked for us as parents. They also did a great job in entertaining our 3 year old whenever needed. Overall, I cannot imagine having a better experience.

Postpartum Doula Support
Speaking as the husband, my wife and I had a great birth experience earlier this month and we’re so thankful to Anna and Emily for their expertise and support! We had Emily for the labor and she was excellent in her encouragement, coaching, and advice. Her presence gave my wife more confidence through her labor and also allowed me to learn how to better coach her myself. Emily also enabled me to take time to update our families and speak with the doctors/nurses without feeling like I was abandoning my wife. Emily was with my wife and I for nearly 24 hours of labor and birth. Her only breaks were a few naps on the floor overnight. Her own perseverance gave us energy and excitement to push through. I’ll say that we could have done this without Emily like many people do - yet I wouldn’t want to. If possible we’d love to have Emily again for our next child. If you’re hesitant about the doula experience, give Boundless a try!

I am a first-time mom and thanks to Emily and Anna, I am so confident right now to take care my newborn. We didn't know a birth doula would make my birth experience so wonderful before we met Emily. She holds the professional knowledge about preparation for the birth, childbirth, and postpartum recovery. I am so thankful that we had Emily around during my first week of postpartum. Emily was the exact right person who you can talk to and showed you how to care a newborn from diaper change to helping your newborn setup a daytime-night sleeping schedule! We highly recommend a birth doula for every mom, and I will definitely use them for my second or even third pregnancy!

Boundless Birth Doulas was amazing to work with. I am a first time mom, and I was very nervous about being able to advocate for myself, especially if my birth didn't go as I had planned it. Anna and Emily were great to work with in the meetings leading up to the birth, and really helped us work out all of the "what ifs" that come with the process of giving birth. During labor and immediately after birth, Anna was a great support and a very calming presence.

Birth Doula Support
Anna was a sibling doula during the birth of my second child. She took care of my 2.5 year old at our house during the entire labor and birth. My daughter had never been left overnight without my husband and me and I was very nervous that she would be confused or scared without me. She loved hanging out with Anna though and it was such a relief during my pregnancy to know that we had a solid plan for childcare. I had been more nervous about childcare for my toddler than the actual birth! Anna is clearly very good with children and I would highly recommend her services as a sibling doula. My daughter talked about all of the fun things they did after her visit and it was obvious that she really liked spending time with Anna. Communication with Anna was also very good during my pregnancy and leading up to the birth. This is a fantastic option for people like us that don't have family or friends in the area that can drop everything at a moment's notice to do childcare during a birth.

I can’t say enough. Not only do I now highly recommend anyone who birthed have a postpartum doula, but Boundless Birth was exceptional from start to finish. Approachable, comfortable, can-do, motivated in ways I couldn’t imagine! They REALLY helped me get on my feet with my third baby. Not only were they amazing with postpartum care, but also as birth doulas. Emily jumped in and was exactly the right personality fit for us. We had a very fast labor, but she was able to be with us when it really mattered and I’m so grateful for her care and comfort. She is an exceptional birth coach and advocate for natural birth. Our babe is now 4 months old and I’m still on cloud 9 with the care we received both during and after labor.

I highly recommend Emily and Anna, and am so grateful that we chose them as our doulas for the birth of my second child. I came to Pittsburgh towards the end of my pregnancy and Emily and Anna provided so much help and orientation around working with new providers and giving birth at at an unfamiliar hospital. I was hoping for an unmedicated birth and through their skillful support in the lead up to and the birth itself, was able to do so. Beyond their expertise as Doulas, they are just stellar people. Down to earth, supportive, funny, gracious and thoughtful — everything you could want in a doula! Their postpartum support was above and beyond what I could have hoped for, helping us through those really tough days of no sleep and difficult feeds early on. And my older child loved them too! If you are looking for a doula, Emily and Anna are seriously amazing.
